“Poggio Cavallo” stands for Horse Hill in Italian. Many find us while looking for horses in this ancient location in Maremma named after this noble animal.
We do not know why the estate has inherited this place-name, which is known throughout the Tuscan Maremma... In living memory, there is no record of horses, stables, horse farms in this place or any related stories. Of course, in the past many horses must have passed through here, on this hill that could well have housed a staging post. Just across the river, on the border with the harsh marshy Maremma and the wholesome hills rolling towards Scansano. Our monumental stable must have sheltered not only the cattle that were raised here but also the horses of the owners of the estate. The farm lies in the heart of the land of the butteri, the Tuscan cowboys of the Maremma Grossetana. Between Alberese, the Uccellina Park, Roselle.
Surely this area is worth a visit by all lovers of horseback riding, as there are a great many facilities for horseback riding and guided rides in the vicinity.
