True to its origins as an ancient oil mill, Poggio Cavallo offers you a holiday among the olive trees and a tasting of the oil made from the olives that are still harvested here.
Farming olives has always been a staple activity of Poggio Cavallo as part of the history of Maremma. Ancient maps show large olive plantings in Poggio Cavallo as early as the Nineteenth Century and the estate has always been reputed for its olive growing in the Grosseto area. In the past, the estate also housed an old oil mill that remained in operation until the early nineteen-eighties.
Guests can taste the extra virgin olive oil produced on the estate, as well as honey, jams, and in-season fruits and vegetables grown locally. The olive room and the tasting room built in the restored old barn are available for banquets and tastings. The restaurant serves typical dishes made with genuine local ingredients and introduces new specialities on a regular basis.
